What was that? 12 years in the making? That is right. I have first came across Heavy Gear Blitz 12 years ago around the same time I encountered Warhammer 40k but the ease of availability of Warhammer and that my first choice of game. Despite that, I always had an interest in it but its constant rules change have veered me away from it until recently.
The living rulebook had been a turn off for me as well until the kickstarters began. The kickstarters first introduced plastic for Heavy Gear Blitz and a quickstart rulebook but it still took some time before I finally started my first dive earlier this month and gotten the 2 player starter set.
With that, lets start with this review.
The box sleeve is nice and catchy with a large battle showing the North and South verses Caprice and CEF. That is one of the things that drew me to Heavy Gear Blitz was its artwork and my love of anime mecha shows. I am not gonna get into the lore of this game for that is not the purpose of this review but I like it.
The back of the sleeve shows what this box has and what is available.
Alas! The box itself! Nothing fancy but that is what the sleeve is for.
The page in question. I soon found out I already had a copy of this downloaded so I made 2 more copies of that.
Yes! The rulebook. A copy of the image we see on the box sleeve in a way. Still nice.
CONTENTS! (Sniff) Ah, yes. The smell of freshly made plastic. (cough)
A nice touch. The 2 sides bases being split into 2 baggies. Perhaps a bit un-necessary but still a nice touch.
During the kickstarter, the spurs were black but at some point were changed over to gray. I was expecting them to be black so I was surprised when I got them all gray. I wish the assembly guide came with this or the download was a bit easier to find. The southern Jagers. A tad bit fiddly for their tiny size but I built nearly a hundred Eisenkerns from Dreamforge Games so it was not that big of a deal. But at least those came with instructions that I downloaded earlier and printed.
The arms for 2 of these are not glued on for future magnetization.
These Black Mambas were not as bad after looking at the instructions a few times. The grenade launcher has since been fixed. I can't wait to get these painted.
